Below is the list of bands that start with the letter D.

If you’re ready, let’s check out these artists.

Dead Kennedys

The Dead Kennedys fused revolutionary ideology with hardcore punk music, becoming one of the most influential hardcore bands.

They were often known for their politics rather than their artist music, but that was part of their band’s influence.

The Kennedys were more influenced by British punk and the Sex Pistols’ ferocious, revolutionary politics than by New York punk musicians’ artier inclinations.

The Dead Kennedys became the most political, and in the view of many onlookers, including Christians and right-wing politicians, the most dangerous rock band in hardcore under the guidance of lead vocalist artist Jello Biafra.

Dead Poet Society

Dead Poet Society is a Los Angeles-based rock band that uses fretless instruments to communicate their anguish and fury at the world and themselves.

The band is made up of Jack Underkofler (lead vocals/guitar), Jack Collins (guitar), Will Goodroad (bass), and Nick Taylor (drums and bass).

Weapons, a 2013 EP, was their first release.

It gained a following in Mexico, where it performed its 1st large tour, despite its initial failure to find momentum.

They released two more EPs, Axiom in 2015 and Dempsey in 2016, after replacing Taylor with Dylan Brenner on bass.

They recorded their debut album, -!, with their new lineup firmly in place.

Spinefarm Records was released in 2021.

Deep Purple

The rock band formed in England, and since launch has been known as a ‘classic rock royalty.”

Fans claim that they’ve defined the early stages of heavy metal as well as hard tock with their works, which spanned for more than 7 decades.

The rock band has been a hit, having sold over 100 millions albums before parting ways in 1976.

Their initial singles were cover-heavy “psychedelic pop exercises.”

The group was dishing out hard rock in 1970 after the release of “Concerto for Group and Orchestra.”

It further aimed to combine classical and rock sound.

Throughout the 1980s, they continued topping the charts, despite changing times and preferences, in the second decade of the 21st century with critically acclaimed “Now What?!,” and later with “Infinite.”

Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada, a metalcore rock band from Dayton, Ohio, got their name from the novel and film but renamed it to reflect their anti-materialistic Christian values.

With 2007’s Plagues, they succeeded to captivate a secular audience, reaching a commercial high shortly after with 2009’s.

Closing decades, they began a period of maturity and sonic progression with 2016’s Transit Blues and 2019’s The Act.

In 2010, they released Zombie, a concept EP about the apocalypse.

Both of these albums debuted in the Billboard Top Ten, and the band was a popular live act, headlining and selling out their tours for three years in a row.

Danko Jones

Danko Jones is a Canadian hard rock trio named after its artist frontman.

Their bluesy, punk-blasted sound is steeped in the Thin Lizzy and AC/DC traditions.

The band formed in the late 1990s and rapidly created a reputation for themselves with their Juno-nominated sophomore album, We Sweat Blood, released in 2003.

They are known for their high-energy live performances and funny lyrics.

Danko Jones is well-known artist in their native Canada, but their chart-topping albums have helped them gain huge success in other parts of the world, particularly in Western Europe (2019).

Before returning in 2021 with the appropriately named Power Trio,  Garth Richardson to make album number nine, 2019’s hard-hitting A Rock Supreme.

Danzig

Glenn Danzig entered the music industry with his band Danzig that had changed the often horror and lyrical themes of earlier bands, and made them a more devilish and darker, as you could imagine.

The rock band launched their somber and metallic Samhain to discover and experiment with other cool sounds following the disbandment of Misfits; however, the project didn’t succeed.

Danzig formed in 1987, and they promptly signed a deal with Rick Rubin’s Def American record label.

Even if the band’s songs sounded similar, Danzig played the Satanic metal vocalist character to the utmost on their self-titled debut.

In 1990, Danzig II: Lucifuge was released and it expanded their musical horizons by establishing on the blues riffs of their 1st album, but with more comprehensive explorations into the genre.

Instead of heavy metal fury, the band made a step into the gothic romanticism domain, while trying to infuse and create emotions.

Dayglow

Sloan Struble, a Texas-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who goes by the moniker Dayglow, creates guitar-based indie pop-rock.

Due to a lack of musical collaborators in Aledo, he learned multiple instruments and recorded music in his bedroom throughout his teenage years.

In 2018, he self-released his debut album, Fuzzybrain, under the stage name Dayglow, soon before leaving home to attend college at the University of Texas in Austin.

The record began to gain traction within the developing bedroom pop subculture and streaming platforms, where it gathered millions of spins, thanks to the popular hit “Can I Call You Tonight?”

Dead by April

Another band to include on this list is Dead by April.

It was a fast-rising rock band of its time.

The debut single of the metalcore band, “Losing You,” topped the charts in 2009.

Dead by April made their musical debut in 2007 with a ten-track demo named “Dead by April” that went viral on the internet.

In 2008, a 19-track version of the demo was created, which was disseminated mostly through the Internet once more.

Dead by April made its commercial recording debut in 2009 with the song “Losing You,” which rapidly ascended the Swedish singles chart, eventually landing at number one for two weeks in May.

Around the same time, the band released their first full-length album, Dead by April.

The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200.

Damn Yankees

Damn Yankees, a supergroup that had a brief run on the arena rock circuit in the early 1990s, had a lot of success.

The rock band group’s self-titled debut album, released in 1990, yielded several hits, including the Top Ten power ballad “High Enough” and the radio hit “Coming of Age,” but the band’s follow-up album, Don’t Tread, didn’t fare nearly as well.

Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades continued to work together as Shaw Blades after the group disintegrated.

DEVO

Devo was one of the most original and (for a while) popular new wave bands.

“De-evolution” was their concept.

It believes in the idea that ‘humanity has regressed,’ as opposed to evolving – as proven by the herd mentality and dysfunction of the US society.

This inspired the name of the rock band that starts with D.

Their sound reflected this view of society as rigid, repressive, and mechanical, with appropriate touches such as jerky, robotic rhythms.

The band has an obsession with electronics and technology.

Chord progressions and atonal melodies were screened through geek misfit perspectives.

Devo became a cult phenomenon, aided in part by their contemporaneous emphasis on highly stylized graphics, and briefly burst into the mainstream.

Rock band Devo’s simple, basic electronic pop sound was very influential, but it was also somewhat limited, and as other bands began expanding on the group’s ideas, Devo seemed unable to keep up, prompting them to call it quits in the early 1990s.

The rock ‘n’ roll movement develops from components of rhythm and blues with a minor contribution of country music.

Rock bands’ names were established and changed owing to shifting influences, much as people’s names are developed and changed based on their parents’ background, idols, and other factors.

Many people consider some of the music historians to be the originators of rock music.

Despite having backgrounds from various birthplaces, these bands’ sound has earned fame with rock fans on both sides of the world.

Localized scenes sprang up as rock music became more popular in the 1960s and 1970s.

Memphis, New York, Los Angeles, London, Birmingham, and Dublin are all known for their rock music scenes.

Conclusion

From its beginnings, rock ‘n’ roll music has expanded significantly.

More artists and musicians are surfacing, and classic rock, glam rock, punk rock, synth-pop, progressive rock, alternative rock, indie rock, ska, rap-rock, funk rock, math rock, and post-rock are all subgenres of today’s rock scene.
