Studio Monitors You Can Trust

Whether you're mixing dialogue, hip-hop, rock, or something else entirely, Mackie's MR624 delivers superior translation that you can trust. The MR624 features a 6.5" polypropylene woofer that yields responsive, dynamic lows and a 1" silk-dome tweeter that offers extreme clarity and transient response. These active studio monitors are equipped with Mackie's logarithmic waveguide system to minimize diffraction and reflections, resulting in enhanced stereo imaging and a large sweet spot. Precise acoustic alignment ensures a balanced frequency response. You can also tailor the MR624 to your room with the Acoustic Space switch and High Freq filter. Complete with an eye-catching all-wood cabinet, the MR624 looks as great as it sounds.

Built for superior mix translation

It's clear that Mackie designed the MR624 with a serious eye on accuracy. This studio monitor's logarithmic waveguide system minimizes the diffraction and reflections that can color your sound, ensuring enhanced stereo imaging and a generous sweet spot. Experience balanced sound across the entire frequency spectrum, thanks to the MR624's precise acoustic alignment. Acoustic absorption has been incorporated into the MR624 to tighten its sound, while internal bracing adds stiffness to reduce distortion and enhance low-frequency response. At Sweetwater, we're impressed by how well our mixes translate when we mix on these monitors.

Perfectly matched drivers and amplifiers

Packing 65 watts of Class AB amplification that is ideally matched to the 6.5" polypropylene woofer and 1" silk-dome tweeter, the MR624 delivers extreme clarity with plenty of output and responsive, dynamic lows. It's also optimized for transient response, so it reproduces snare drums and other quick-transient sources with complete fidelity. And if you need more low-end extension, the companion MRS10 subwoofer is also available.

Customizable frequency control

The MR624 provides you with an adjustable acoustic space control, plus a boost/cut filter for your highs. These controls allow you to fine-tune your frequency response to your room and speaker placement — handy to have, considering very few of us work in acoustically perfect rooms. And speaking of useful features, you also get flexible input connectivity with balanced XLR and TRS connectors, plus an RCA — letting you integrate your monitors into a variety of studio setups.

Very low noise quality monitors! No hiss!! Nice even flat sound!

I started researching nearfield monitors when my Events developed a tweeter issue. As someone with VERY sensitive hearing, a low noise, no hiss monitor was a must. After countless hours of research, I concluded I needed to look at monitors using class AB amps. All the reviews stating monitors with a hiss problem on idle had one thing in common, they all used class D amplification. Being only 2 to 3 foot from my monitors, a monitor that did not hiss was a priority. These Mackie Mr624 are an excellent choice for a quiet, flat sounding studio monitor for use in a small studio space.

Using high quality balanced cables (a must), I have to physically touch my ear to the monitor to tell its even on at idle. So quiet! I love them. No audible hiss! I have been using these to mix and I'm very pleased with the sound. Very flat response, no colorization that I can tell, super crisp clear highs, nice full midrange, and good solid bass. Being only 6 1/2 inch woofers, you wont be hosting a Bass Earthquake party with these, but bass is more than adequate. No real need for a separate sub. You can always check for excessive bass with a nice set of headphones.

Controls on the back are straightforward and easy to use. Thanks to Sweetwater's EXCELLENT high quality pictures, you can check them out. Lots of input options. Balanced inputs will be better using high quality balanced cables. This will result in a low to no noise experience. The back firing port is a non issue. It's a good idea to use a decibel meter to calibrate the volume levels, so monitors will have a balanced sound from left to right. Very easy to do do and takes very little time. The monitor housing appears to be of an all wood design and covered with a textured vinyl covering which results in a nice attractive modern look.

All in all, I'm very pleased with these monitors in every way. Mackie did, in my opinion, a great job on designing these.
My rep Tyler, and the Sweetwater team , got these shipped out quickly, and to my door safely. Thanks guys.

In closing, if you need a great sounding nearfield monitor that has a balanced flat response, with NO audible hiss, and at a great price, the Mackie MR624 Studio Monitors are an excellent choice.

Best monitors for the price, hands down.

I'm not going to dress it up or make this lengthy - just get these monitors if you are looking to start a home studio setup at a basic level. They sound great, no two ways about it. I also think these have an advantage over other monitors of a similar price range because they sound just as good when they're quiet as when they're loud. I have roommates so being able to work on music at night and not disturb anyone, while still getting an accurate sound from these monitors is pretty important to me.

Pleasantly Surprised

I have 10+ years experience producing music full time. i'll be honest, i'm currently working with a pair of Adam 7x's and Dynaudio BM5's and I was looking for a 'junk' pair of monitors to use as a random reference point. I purchased these Mackie's without having listened to them and only because they were the right size and color. I hopped into a mix the day I got them (something I never do because I like to learn them first) and I was shocked. They suited my room and my ear perfectly. I've actually been using them more than my Adam/Sub combo. I do Hip Hop and Pop and I could probably get rid of my sub now. On top of all that they are translating extremely well! So surprised a pair of monitors under $400 are working this well for me. That being said I'm replacing my Dynaudio with these Mackie's. You don't need a brand name and a high price tag to get it done.

Just go for it

I will be honest and say that I ignore the recommendation of using studio speakers for production purposes. While I have the knowledge and equipment to do so, my main purpose for acquiring these is a set of speakers that I would be able to use for personal listening after I have used them to MC my upcoming wedding; having attended quite a few weddings already with terrible "DJs" blaring their iTunes playlist over Yamaha PAs for crowds of ~50 people in rooms far too small for such equipment. I know that's a lot of information but it ties into what I was personally looking for.

What I wanted:
Dispersion- something that would project equally and efficiently across room regardless of where you stand, which these deliver in spades. I can only say that the logarithmic curve they used for the higher frequencies is akin to magic. Pick a point in the room and you will receive accurate imaging. For a small wedding party these are going to perform spectacularly.

Imaging- absolutely phenomenal. I can't praise enough how accurate and clear the reproduction of these monitors display. Listened to Joe Bonamassa- "The Ballad of John Henry" and I swear I should now be able to count the number of links in the chain 57 seconds into the song.

Ported Cabinet- I like timbre of ported cabinets. Getting that pump during kicks and bass riffs is extremely satisfying. I will say that these NEED a dedicated sub to get the absolute most out of your experience. KRK might be able to give you bassheads some more of that low end, but they don't compare to this level of clarity and imaging.

Acoustic Settings- These have 3 wonderful settings that are determined relative to their proximity of a wall. Be sure that you take advantage of this and have the appropriate switch active for best results.

What I don't like:
Dispersion- While this is beyond wonderful for medium to high volume listening I found that the low volumes, while still amazingly clear and precise, felt "thin" due to the waves being spread evenly throughout the room. This was a strange experience for me, but maybe you won't feel the same way.

Bass- These definitely have low end production, but it is just at the precipice of leaving you wanting more. These will work best in conjunction with a dedicated sub, at least for those who want an enhanced listening experience. I can't speak for those who will actually be using them as reference monitors, but I feel they might lead you to mix a slightly heavy bass.

Conclusion:
If you are looking for amazing quality in this price range, then don't even look any further and just get these. I cannot stress enough how much performance you get from them as I would expect the pair to cost at least another $100 - $150 (combined) for what you receive.
