Designed by Misha Mansoor for the Modern Metal Player
Misha Mansoor from Periphery created the Horizon Devices Precision Drive pedal to deliver your ideal combination of boost, bite, and drive with any guitar and amplifier combination. Optimized for both analog and digital guitar rigs, the Precision Drive offers everything from subtle harmonic enhancement to full-on distortion. The magic is in its Attack control, a six-position switch which progressively tightens up low-end response and tames excessive bass — perfect for down-tuned and extended-range guitars. Factor in a built-in noise gate for chopped palm muting, and it's clear the Horizon Devices Precision Drive is the perfect pedal for metal players to push their amp over the top.
Plenty of gain and volume to punish your amplifier
Many metal guitarists at Sweetwater employ an overdrive pedal used as a boost to push their high-gain amp tones further. Misha Mansoor designed the Precision Drive pedal to have plenty of volume and gain on tap above unity level — at their 12 o'clock positions, the Volume and Drive controls are delivering what most pedals offer at their max. Start cranking them up from there to get into seriously aggressive territory.
6 position attack switch tames excessive low end
Step through the six positions of the Attack control, and you'll hear your bass frequencies progressively tighten up and midrange attack become more focused. It's especially useful for getting a consistent sound with different guitars — the warmer/fuller the guitar tone, the more you can crank the Attack control to minimize unwanted low-frequency rumble. The Attack control can also put you on the fast track towards fast, tight, focused palm-muting tones.
Built-in noise gate for low-noise performance and gate effects
Right in the middle of the Precision Drive pedal is a Gate control, and it ranges from off, all the way to a hard-gated effect. Misha Mansoor included a noise gate because it's extremely common for metal guitarists to include a gate pedal after their overdrive — so why not build it in? It will transparently cut noise caused by higher volume and gain settings. And it's perfect for creating choppier, gated palm-muted lines.
