A Value-priced All-mahogany Dreadnought

There's nothing quite like the warm tone of an all-mahogany dreadnought, and the Yamaha FG850 delivers that prized sound at a stellar price. Strum this great-sounding acoustic guitar and experience mahogany's characteristic thick, present midrange and meaty overtones. Beyond that, a Standard-shaped neck, topped by an easy-playing rosewood fingerboard, provides excellent feel and playability. Eye-catching mahogany binding completes the look of this superb instrument. Both beginners looking for a quality first guitar and longtime players searching for a top-notch backup will find much to love about the FG850.

All-mahogany construction

The FG850 sports all-mahogany construction. The strummers here at Sweetwater appreciate this wood for its warm, well-balanced tone. It delivers robust low-midrange frequencies while maintaining top-end clarity. The sound is gentle and full, which is ideal for vocal accompaniment. You'll love the rich tone you get from the Yamaha FG850.

Dreadnought body style gives you excellent natural acoustic projection

Ever since guitarists have been relying on the natural projection of their instruments, the powerful voice of the dreadnought body style has been an all-around favorite among flatpickers. The FG850 gives you a bold and balanced voice that's perfect for anything from traditional bluegrass to the driving rhythms of modern acoustic rock. You'll love the full sound of Yamaha's FG850, particularly when you play more aggressively.

Yamaha FG: the best-selling acoustic guitar series in the world

It's not hard to see why Yamaha's FG series is a world best seller. They were the first to offer full-sized dreadnought bodies, professional-grade tonewoods, and fast-playing necks on instruments that were affordable for beginners and pros alike. If you're just learning to play, you'll enjoy the comfort of the neck and body, the low string action, and the full sound. Seasoned players who need a quality backup will love the detail of tone, the acoustic power, and how effortlessly the guitar plays.

Yamaha FG850 Features:

  • All-mahogany construction delivers robust low-midrange frequencies while maintaining top-end clarity
  • Scalloped bracing accentuates low frequencies and increases projection
  • Great-feeling Standard-shaped neck topped by an easy-playing rosewood fingerboard
  • Eye-catching mahogany body binding
  • Makes a quality first instrument or top-notch backup

Great playing and sounding guitar

Pleasantly surprised on the looks the playability and sound of my new F850 Yamaha Acoustic guitar. Not to mention the price, a definite keeper.

Absolutely love this guitar!!!

I already knew that Yamaha makes very good instruments regardless of the price point. This is my second Yamaha acoustic guitar with my other being a FS 800. Which is my first guitar I learned on. I've now bee. Playing for around 9 months and I feel as I am progressing every day.

With that being said, I ordered my FG 850 in February and unfortunately it was on back order till June. I hesitantly ordered it anyway Nd I am VERY glad I did! My sales engineer from day 1 as been Simon and he has stayed in touch keeping me updated, also along with all the other stuff my girlfriend has fussed me for buying. I finally received this beautiful instrument yesterday afternoon and have been in love with it since I picked it up!!

Fresh out of the box, my FG barely needed any tuning and only a slight adjustment on the truss rod to my liking. I now know what people are meaning by saying a "warmer" and "fuller" tone! This Dreadnought sounds absolutely amazing to my ear! A far as playability, it is almost unbelievable to me how easily it is to play yo me. Even with my limited amount of guitar experience and abilities. Barre chords which I've only really started working on in the past month at best is much easier to play to me. Maybe it is a little bit of me actually getting better, but I definitely to believe that's it is the guitar that is most of it. From the moment I picked it up, it has been nearly impossible to put down! I 100% suggest this guitar for so much more than just a first or beginners guitar. This thing would fo great for your #1 go to acoustic for anyone of any skill level, gigging or recording needs!
Music background: Painfully new and annoyingly learning every day.

Beautiful in appearance and tone

How does Yamaha make such a stunning guitar at this price? Fantastic craftsmanship, lovely appointments -- wood binding, dark fretboard with understated dot markers, bound fretboard, and classy headstock. Warm all-mahogany sound with pleasant action. Can't go wrong.
Music background: 40 years playing

Great guitar

I've owned this guitar since September of 2021 and I love it. I am just learning how to play and it is forgiving, sounds great and projects a big, rich sound. I honestly have nothing negative to say about it. It is a great guitar to learn on and it looks gorgeous.

Nice Guitar

Nice sounding, comfortable guitar to play. Mahogany top sounds different from spruce tops. I've heard it described as "warmer". That said, it is a well made guitar that sounds incredible and the price point is a bonus.
