An Exclusive Style 28 Herringbone Dreadnought

A limited edition of Martin’s legendary HD-28 available only at Sweetwater, the Martin Style 28 Herringbone dreadnought acoustic guitar boasts the iconic design that made the HD-28 a classic, including the iconic herringbone top trim and Martin’s time-tested scalloped X-bracing — now forward-shifted for enhanced volume and projection. Used in all styles of music, the HD-28 offers the deep bass response that’s made Martin dreadnoughts so popular. Yet it also has a high-end presence that sings out even in heavy instrumentation. You’ll love the scrumptious sound of Style 28 Herringbone’s premium tonewood combination — a spruce top, and East Indian rosewood back and sides — as well as the feel of the Modified V neck. This special edition of Martin’s famous “Tone Cannon” has tremendous dynamic range and quick response with excellent note definition, which makes it a versatile choice for a wide range of music genres and playing techniques.

The Dreadnought: Drenched In History

Launched in 1906, Britain’s HMS Dreadnought was the first all-big-gun battleship and the first to use steam-turbine propulsion. Larger, faster, quieter, and more deadly than any warship that had come before, it ushered in the modern era of naval warfare. In 1916, Martin, which had been handcrafting fine guitars since 1833, christened their new large-bodied steel-string acoustic guitars after the groundbreaking naval vessel. Ubiquitous today across musical genres, dreadnoughts deliver the volume, projection, and deep bass that makes them ideal for vocal accompaniment, solo work, and many other “unplugged” applications, and also gives them the power to drive a track or plow through a thick arrangement.

A Cornerstone Of Modern Music

Martin’s early dreadnoughts set into motion the instrument’s prominent role in modern music and set the standard for tone quality in acoustic guitars. Martin dreadnoughts became known for resonant warm tones, quality craftsmanship, tasteful styling. For those reasons, Martin guitars became an important part of the music written and performed by the stars of the 1920s and ’30s. The post-WWII D-28 became a cornerstone of the folk and folk rock music of the ’50s and ’60s. Introduced in 1976, the HD-28, graced with its inimitable herringbone purfling, took its place in the Martin lineup as a slightly more ornate, upscale version of the classic. The Style 28 Herringbone carries on the tradition in a unique, Sweetwater-exclusive limited edition destined to be the crown jewel of your acoustic guitar collection.

Incredible!

I have always been a 000 guy. I have a 000-18GE 1937 sunburst a great example of a perfect 000. I wanted a Dread. Specifically a HD28v but the one Inwanted I hadn't found other than the expensive authentic model. I stumbled on this Style 28 exclusive for Sweetwater and it ticked every single box I had other than plastic bridge pins. Not that that is a deal breaker it won't affect tone is any meaningful way. I ordered anyway and it is an absolutely perfect example of a loud Martin Dreadnaught! I've been playing not non stop fit finish fret work is all perfect and that East Indian Rosewood back and sides are stunning. But above all it sounds incredible!

All about the Sound

For me, it was all about the 1 11/16 nut width. I have small hands and the 1 3/4 inch nuts Martin has on the majority of their guitars is just too wide for me. So I was thrilled to get a new guitar that reminded me of my 1969 D28 that I had played for 30+ years. Ok, but how does it play and sound? First of all the action is comfortable and every note rings pure and true. But, with this guitar, its all about the sound! It's been a long while since a guitar has given me chills...but this one did just that...it's beautiful: sweet yet complex w/beautiful overtones and sustaining bass notes just seem to sustain forever...I'm very impressed...and this is from a brand new guitar...I can only imagine how it will sound in several years because it's incredible right now! Martin and Sweetwater have hit a home run, and I absolutely love it!

Martin Sweetwater HD-28.: The King of Acoustic Guitars!

What can I write that hasn't been said on the the other reviews on here?!

The Martin HD-28 Sweetwater Exclusive is all you will ever need in an acoustic guitar.

It's an upgraded HD-28.

- You have square and diamond fret markers in abalone instead of dot style in MOP

- You have a upgraded herringbone pattern trim instead of the standard 28 trim

- Adirondack spruce (traditional) instead of regular Sitka spruce

- Scalloped Adirondack spruce braces instead of non scalloped Sitka spruce braces

- Forward shifted X brace for better sound and sustain

It's a Martin tone canon at its best!

The only thing that would've been the cherry on top of the sunday was if they had the Martin logo in abalone in the headstock instead of raised gold. But that has zero effect on sound.

Get yourself one ASAP!

Exceptional feel

Great guitar! The v neck feels amazing, the adi top is booming, flawless craftsmanship. Only complaint is there is no strap button on the neck heal, but that is really nothing. High price tag, but worth the coin!
