At Sweetwater, we have microphones to handle even the most specialized applications. The Neumann KM 184 is the perfect example. Need a microphone to record percussion, cymbals or brass instruments? The KM 184 is capable of handling high sound pressure levels with ease - as high as 138dB before overloading. acoustic guitar application - everything i hoped for

Setting up a home studio and decided it was time to take a plunge and see if mics like this really were worth the cost. really does a great job on my acoustic guitar I'm running it through a WARM preamp sounds fantastic

A Staple for Acoustic

I've got about four months experience with these. I liked the first one enough that I bought a second (although lately I favor pairing it with a ribbon). It's always one of my first grabs for acoustic guitar. A lot of times, I don't even go to anything else. When I shoot it out vs my other SDCs and LDCs it almost always stays in the mix. When I want something bright, clean, and pleasant this Is the one. I like it best about 18" away from the guitar directly in front of the 7-9th fret pointed towards the neck/body joint.

Love on Acoustic Guitar

I have a lot of mics to choose from. Take the price and name of all of them and this is my favorite mic on acoustic guitar now. I'm tracking as I type and it just sounds great. Like another review I wish I had bought more

Excellent for acoustic guitar

Purchased and received a pair of these a few days ago. Implemented these immediately in my home studio and these capture the nuances of an older martin guitar beautifully. Very pleased.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Jeff Barnett

A classic. The KM 184 is a standard fixture in any serious mic collection. It's the quintessential mic that other small-diaphragm microphones seek to emulate.

Paul Lea

Look no further if you are in search of a solid and reliably great sounding mic for your acoustic guitar. It also works great on classic "blackface" guitar amps.

Stuart Niven

The Neumann KM 184 is an essential microphone for any recording engineer's microphone cabinet. Simply wonderful on acoustic guitars with a very detailed and clear articulation. On cymbals it shines, bringing out the natural presence and shimmer, making you think that you are right there in the room as it was recorded! Wow! Pick up a pair of these and you have a killer pair of overhead microphones!
