Classic Moog Analog Synth Mojo Goes Mini!

The Moog Minitaur analog synth module is the ultimate bass module for any analog synth nut! The Minitaur is a freakishly powerful yet compact tabletop analog bass synthesizer module based on Moog's widely popular Taurus 3. It gives you the full convenience of both MIDI and CV control, yet its monophonic audio signal path is 100 percent analog. If you love to tweak your sounds, then you're going to feel right at home with the Minitaur. It gives you complete hands-on control over every aspect of your sound. There are no screens to squint at or menus to lumber through - just a knob-and-button playground that's totally intuitive. Between its oscillators, envelopes, and other analog goodies, the Minitaur provides you with the whole range of Taurus bass tones. And thanks to its compact design, the Minitaur is the perfect addition to your studio or live keyboard rig. Whether you perform live electronic music or create new soundscapes in your studio, you'll love creating sounds with the Moog Minitaur analog synth module!

Moog Minitaur Analog Synth Module at a Glance:

Classic analog synth vibe from Moog

Moog synthesizers have created some of the most iconic sounds in modern music, from ground-swelling bass sounds to ripping lead sounds and beyond. The Minitaur analog synth module gives you two oscillators with square and sawtooth waveforms, and the legendary Moog filter section - all you need to create blistering analog synth sounds with classic Moog character. The Minitaur's one-knob-per-function layout makes creating and tweaking unique sounds on the fly easy.

The most portable Moog ever

The compact design of the Minitaur analog synth module makes it an exceptional addition to any live performance rig or DJ setup. You can trigger the analog goodness of the Minitaur via MIDI (from your controller keyboard or sequencer), or via CV inputs (from other CV-equipped synth gear), so it's easy to integrate into your existing system. The Minitaur's sound is huge, but the synth module itself is the perfect size to fit in a backpack or laptop bag.

Extensive control via MIDI or CV, plus audio input

Control Moog's Minitaur from an external keyboard controller, from your computer's sequencer, from another analog synth, or virtually any other MIDI- or CV-capable device. You'll love the Minitaur's huge analog sound as soon as you start turning knobs, but the your sounds really come alive when you hook up external controllers to the Minitaur for creative modulation. And speaking of creative potential, you can even route external audio through the Minitaur's filter and modulation sections - results may vary from subtle to other-worldly!

Software editor for real-time editing and more

The Minitaur Plugin and Standalone Editor controls real time editing, preset library management, preset sharing, and host DAW integration. Powerful under-the-hood features are also easily accessed and controlled from this application. The Minitaur Editor can be run standalone or is compatible with DAWS running VST, AU, RTAS, and AAX formats.

Magnificent!

I own the Matriarch, the Mother 32, the Subsequent 25 and 37. NONE of these are as smooth as the Minitaur.

The Minitaur is hot butter. It's smooth. You have to hear it to believe it. Like most Moogs, you can overdrive the VCOs in the mixer if you want more growl, but my God, it's smooth and buttery.

The are compromises: no pulse wave modulation, no cross modulation, note limitation and hidden features that require a VST or key presses.

All of those compromises come with gifts.

The square wave is beautiful.

The note limitation comes with the most magnificent bass sound you will hear.

The key presses are necessary because Amos Gaines and his team have added more features to this synth: oscillator sync, numerous LFO shapes, and more preset slots for saving patches.

What this synth does, it does well. Yes, it's limited, but if used well, it does not matter.

I prize it as much as my Subsequent 37, and I will never part with it. If I'm ever homeless, I'll have my dogs in a shopping basket with the Minitaur and the Subsequent 37. It's THAT good.

And it's small. You can take it with you or put it on table without it taking lots of space.

If you need bass, buy it. If you need a baritone synth, buy it. If you need notes over C5, buy the Subsequent 25. The 25 gets angrier far quicker than the Minitaur, but it's a great synth. The 25 is just not as smooth as the Minitaur.

BUY IT BEFORE MOOG QUITS MAKING IT.

This thing is awesome!

My studio was missing a solid bass synth and the Minitaur didn't disappoint. Very versatile, amazing sound. You can really make it thump. It is capped in the high range, but you can still do some nice leads. Well worth the price. It does what it does very well.

My singular complaint is that to take full advantage of its capabilities, you really need to have it hooked up to a computer. Some of the settings aren't available directly. Not a deal breaker for me by any means though. Couple be for some.

Great bass

BASS!

After fiddling with various software for some years, I decided to try the real thing. The software is great, but to me never fully satisfying no matter what I tried or how much I tweaked. So, sure, why not try the really thing. Maybe those old gremlins on the internet are right?

Yup!

Plug it in, set it up, twist a few knobs…..and thats the sound. Simple as that.

For some people, BASS is medicine. If you are one of those people, you need real analog BASS! And this right here is a hefty dose of it.

Just Buy It!!

I've always wanted a Moog synthesizer, and the Minitaur was the perfect addition to my Korg/Nord/Elektron setup. This Moog allows me to achieve thick & rubbery bass lines with a juicy-warmth I can't achieve anywhere else! Additionally, I purchased a few 3rd Party Patch Expansion sound packs, and created a potent library via the user-friendly Moog editor, and now this bass synth is a Weapon Of Mass Destruction!

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Nick Schenkel

I got a chance to check this out while it was in development, and can personally vouch for the Moog Minitaur as being every bit as cool as you hope it is. Holy cow; what an amazing little synth! While it is dedicated to bass, it can generate plenty of other timbres and pitches; it just won't go the FULL length of the keyboard (the ones I played with could get to about an octave above middle C). Still, I would gladly pay this much for a good plug-in, let alone a true analog synthesizer! The Moog Minitaur will shake your walls, knock stuff off of your desk with sonic awesomeness, and leave you wondering how such an amazing instrument can sound so huge and cost so little. I've already got mine on order!

Nitish Kulkarni

Coming from a strong soft-synth background, I've found the Moog Minitaur both fun and easy to use. This monophonic synth's set of essential waveforms and sound-shaping tools lets me get creative quickly, so I can dial in a massive range of bass sounds in minutes. It also integrates perfectly with my DAW and MIDI controller, so it fits comfortably into my regular workflow.

Want real Moog sound? Take it from the die-hard analog synth masters here at Sweetwater: buy a Moog. It doesn't matter which one; their synths start at top quality and only go up from there. Sweetwater's relationship with Moog goes way back, and some of us fondly remember the last time Bob himself came to visit. Over the years, we've had the honor of watching Moog grow and evolve, and with synthesis experts like Daniel Fisher on staff, we're still one of the first companies to catch wind of new Moog products - they never fail to impress! Whether it's a classic reissue, a breakthrough new keyboard, or even a cool effects pedal, you can be sure anything you get from Moog will make you happy, and we'd love to tell you all about it.
