Too smooth for it's own good!

Outstanding snare and certainly lives up to the name.

My only complaint (if you can call it a complaint) would be that the tension rods are so dang smooth that it seems to be quite touchy when being tuned, but again, not really a complaint as much as just something I observed.

Once tuned up, this little beauty sounds absolutely incredible and goes well with my Ludwig Classic Maple kit.

Definitely worth it!

These drums are amazing

I got a great deal on newer b stock, after putting 2 new heads and 1963 luddy wires on it it sounds sooo good, I got $ into it. This drum can cover any type of music. The quality of shell n throw off are first rate. Expensive but there are lots of more pricey drums that dont sound as good.

You need one...or multiple

This drum is great. It can fill most roles you throw at it. FWIW, my review of 4.5/5 stars is more due to workmanship issues during the time I bought my drum earlier this year. A good specimen is 5/5. Every single drummer needs an LM402 of some, or multiple, iterations.

Workmanship from Ludwig, especially recently due to "the pandemic" can be shoddy. This is not a secret. It took them three tries to get me a drum that was not B-Stock quality...and even then they had a MAJOR issue that we worked out on the side. Ludwig made it right. I want to make sure to point that out. As it stands, it's one of my favorite snares.

If you want that Bonham thing, look no further. This drum will get you there.

I took off the lug gaskets and threw on a set of Ludwig die cast hoops and this drum went from 9 out of 10 on the "Cool Meter" to exploding the "Cool Meter". The sound just opened up.

Now, I'm not saying to do what I did. I've heard all about "lug splay" and the other terrible things that may befall your LM402 if you take it out of stock mode, but time will tell. As much as I play it, it should last the rest of my life.

Ludwig Supraphonic

A snare I've wanted for a long time. Had it about a month now and absolutely love it. Been having fun playing around with the wide tuning range. Lives up to its reputation regarding quality build and crack like sound. May eventually change out the stock heads but no real need at this point. A must for old time rock n roll drummers. May have to upgrade my kit now.

The sound on this supraphonic snare is crazy the depth is really what brings the big sound out and lots of rebound for air to move! Love this drum the late Great JOHN BONHAM, no wonder he used this drum. Spectacular sound and look!!
