When you think about the name brand Kawai, you probably think about them as being one of the most reputable manufacturers in the piano industry. Not only do they manufacture acoustic pianos but digital pianos as well, with the Kawai KDP90 being a beautiful choice and fine entry to the array of digital keyboards they have to offer.

The Kawai KDP90 Digital Piano – An Overview

If you plan on getting a digital piano for your home, then the Kawai KDP90 will definitely impress. It has a trim footprint and the attractive rosewood finish which suits any home decor. And with its many other advanced features available, it’s what makes the KDP90 one of the well-known pianos to invest in today.

Beautiful Design

When you first receive the Kawai KDP90, you’ll first compliment its appearance. It comes with a high-quality rosewood finish which adds a lot of beauty and style to it. It adds a touch of elegance to your home, regardless of its interior design.

The piano also has a compact frame size, though since it weighs over 80 pounds, it can be a bit difficult to transport on your own. However, its size can make it fit into any corner of your room.

Besides its impressive feel and style, it also comes with built-in key covers to prevent any debris or dust from getting the piano dirty.

Quality Keyboard

The first thing you’ll notice when playing the Kawai KDP90 is its feel. It comes with the advanced hammer action IV-F, which is considered to be one of the most responsive and realistic digital pianos available at its price range.

Because of its weighted and graded keys, it would give you the feel of playing an acoustic piano. As you play, there are different sized hammers from the bottom to top range, which is actually being lifted.

Not only that, but it has the sound you need when performing or listening as you practice. Though not the most spectacular, its hammer action and realistic feel make up for this.

Awesome Sustain Pedal

Just like its other competitors, the Kawai KDP90 comes with built-in pedals. There are three pedals with different effects of sounds, similar to other acoustic pianos. All of the pedals would have an action on the instrument chords, which gives off the different and customized sounds.

These sustain pedals are made with high-quality metal and allow you to use half-pedaling or damper pedals, which gives you smooth and tailored sounds for any piece you want to play.

Also, there is a longer decay time, which is amazing for advanced leveled pianists.

Perfect Harmony

As you begin playing the Kawai KDP90, you’ll hear a stunning piano sound similar to a handcrafted Kawai concert grand piano. This is thanks to the harmonic imaging technology used, as the 88 keys were painstakingly recorded and reproduced to sound just like the real thing.

From top to the bottom range, you will get the measure of impressiveness that will have you enjoy the sweet melodies as you play. Plus, there are 15 different sounds to choose from, fit to your preference and performances. You can choose from the electric pianos, orchestral rings, choir, and even more!

Amazing Performance at Outstanding Value

One thing to appreciate about the Kawai KDP90 is how it’s fit for both beginner and advanced pianists. It comes with a three-song recorder for you to record performances and listen to your progress.

It also has lesson features, so you are able to learn pieces from Czerny or Burmueller, as well as learn songs from Alfred course books. Furthermore, there are different modes to choose from, so you are able to collaborate or play together with your teacher or diet partner, making it versatile for many kinds of performances or types of practice.

Pros
  • Amazing hammer action with the keyboard weight perfect for practicing
  • Recommended for beginners, with a natural touch for valuable practices
  • Smaller than an upright piano, saving up on space
  • Has advanced technology for a better and more authentic playing experie
Cons
  • Portable built but a bit too heavy to move alone
  • Needs two people to move it around and set up
  • Has a good sound but not exceptional, not sounding 100% like an authentic piano
  • A bit pricier compared to other models from different manufacturers

Drawbacks

While the KDP90 surpasses our standards for the price tag, it isn’t a perfect digital piano. The instrument still has a few drawbacks and things to improve on, however, they aren’t huge issues to change your mind.

For starters, it’s a bit pricier compared to other setups from different manufacturers (though it is the highest-rated digital piano among its competitors!).

Also, while it has a portable build and feature, it may not be as easy to move it as you imagined. Because of its weight, it will take two to three people to move it around easily.

It’s not for those looking for a lightweight digital piano.
