Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s: Born to Rock

From its carved maple top to its stockpile of premium features, the Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s is ready to rock. Burstbucker pickups and handwired electronics on this Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s deliver a massive tone arsenal. And you’ll enjoy effortless playability, courtesy of a satisfying vintage ’50s profile neck and fast-action rosewood fingerboard. If you’ve been wanting a modern Gibson Les Paul with a chunky neck feel and premium appointments, Sweetwater has your axe. The Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s is the guitar you’ve been waiting for.

Burstbucker pickups deliver vintage PAF tone on this Gibson Les Paul Standard

When it comes to capturing that vintage ’50s Patent Applied For (PAF) humbucker tone, nothing beats the sound of this Gibson Les Paul Standard’s Burstbucker pickups. Alnico II magnets capture the subtle variations in true humbucker tone, thanks to the period-correct unmatched windings on the bobbins. Plug the Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s into your favorite amp, and experience smooth low-end response, complex midrange crunch, and sweet-sounding highs. These pickups sound great clean, or they can be used to push your amp into overdrive for the legendary fat, snarling tone you can only get with a humbucker. Under the hood, the control assembly is handwired with matched potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors, ensuring that you’ll hear the mellifluous voice of your Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s in all its glory, even when you back down your volume.

Vintage ’50s neck and Plek’d frets for optimized playability

Comfort and playability were two of Gibson’s primary concerns when they were designing the Les Paul Standard ’50s. You’ll be delighted by how this guitar’s vintage ’50s neck profile comfortably fills your hand in just the right way. For your playing pleasure, the rosewood fingerboard is buffed to silky smoothness and bound with rolled edges so that no fret ends impede your dexterity. The frets of this Gibson Les Paul Standard are dressed to perfection using a Plek Pro machine for optimized playability. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you’re likely to own.

Nitro finish for the look and feel of a classic

Gibson gave the Les Paul Standard ’50s a gorgeous nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes — standard back in the day — are significantly thinner than today’s polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to “breathe.” Nitro finishes not only look amazing, but they also enhance the instrument’s tonal qualities. The Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s has the look and feel of a lovingly cared-for classic — one that will only improve with age.

Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Mahogany body, maple top; gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish
  • Mahogany neck, vintage ’50s profile, gloss nitro finish
  • Rosewood fingerboard, 12" radius, acrylic trapezoid inlays

Till death do us part

Never parting with this one. It is simply amazing. It has that sweet rock sound I always wanted. I am glad I went with the 50's over the 60's model due to the neck and pickups. Love the color also. It is very easy to play on. There is nothing I would change on it. Very high quality. Pictures do not do it justice. The intonation and action was spot on out of the box.

Best Blues Guitar

I put Robert at Sweetwater through the paces before pulling the trigger on one of these and he definitely made the right recommendation for me. This is a beautiful looking, playing, and sounding chunk of wood. Best blues guitar I've ever played. Something about it just makes the sound that my brain gets lost in. I hate pickguard so I popped it off mine but even with it on its a beautiful instrument.

Excellent.

Bought this on Xmas day. I am a huge Gibson Les Paul Custom guy. I own 3 from different eras. I never had or even played a Standard. After checking reviews of the new/retro specs, I decided to get one.
This guitar is perfect. The finish, the tone, the hardware is excellent. Gibson really stepped up and made an excellent instrument. This will be a keeper.
Music background: Professional musician.

Gibson lespaul 50’s standard

I would like to say that I received this beautiful
Instrument without flaws. It plays very well. It was set up and ready to play. The 55 point inspection was the best. Thank you sweetwater. I would definitely buy again from this company. Although I received it with a small inspection card and I'm not sure if this is something new that gibson does and replaced the bigger inspection card and just a little concerned about it.

From rockers to jazz cats, there are generations of guitarists right here at Sweetwater who swear by Gibson guitars. Not only do they make many of the most iconic solidbody electric guitars of all time - the Les Paul, the SG, the Flying V - but they also produce classic hollowbody and semi-hollowbody models and some of the most iconic acoustic guitars on the planet.
