A Time-traveling Tone Machine

With the iconic look and sound of 1950s-era Les Pauls, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’50s is full vintage character and classic rock ‘n’ roll vibe. A mahogany body pours out warm resonance, while a maple top punches up the tone with clarity and snap. The comfortable ’59 Rounded Medium C neck snugs perfectly into your hand for easy chording and dynamic fret runs. Powered by Alnico ProBucker pickups, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’50s has a distinctive rock ‘n’ roll growl when pushed and a warm, pleasant top end when you lay back. Premium appointments, such as Epiphone Vintage Deluxe machine heads, LockTone ABR Tune-o-matic bridge, and high-quality CTS ’50s-style wiring complete the package on this formidable tone machine, available from Sweetwater.

A universe of tone with ProBucker pickups

The ProBuckers on the Les Paul Standard ’50s feature Alnico II magnets — the same as sought-after vintage PAF humbuckers — for rich, warm tone with crystalline highs and a tight bottom. With a ProBucker-1 in the neck position and a (slightly overwound) ProBucker-2 in the bridge position, crank your gain, and you can do some serious damage. We’re talking legendary Les Paul — fat, snarling tone served up with exceptional sustain.

The Les Paul backstory

The Les Paul story started with an instrument called “The Log.” In the early 1940s, on a quest for an electric guitar that would sustain for days, Les Paul — the legendary guitarist and inventor — fashioned what may well have been the first solidbody guitar from a length of common 4" x 4" lumber. For appearances (and possibly playing comfort), Les sawed an Epiphone hollowbody in half and attached the two “wings” to either side of The Log. Les continued to develop the idea through a series of prototypes, ultimately resulting in the classic solidbody guitar we know and love.

With a Les Paul, you’re in good company

From rock to fusion and beyond, the Les Paul’s surly snarl has virtually defined attitude-laden overdriven guitar tone. Legendary guitarists such as Jimmy Page, Al Di Meola, Alex Lifeson, Slash, and countless others have forged their signature sounds with a sunburst Les Paul. Epiphone now gives you the opportunity to experience that one-of-a-kind tone and look at an amazingly affordable price with the Les Paul Standard ’50s. What’s more, the Standard ’50s comes with Epiphone’s limited lifetime warranty and is backed by Gibson’s 24/7/365 customer service — so you know you’re making a solid investment.

Exclusive Epiphone 50's Les Paul

To start with, Sweetwater is the best Ax Store in America. You can see what you order and the packaging is top notch. My sales engineer has been a good one. Now back to the Exclusive 50's Lemon Burst Les Paul. Just unboxed it after sitting in my music room for over 24 hours. What a guitar for the $. I have a quite a few Gibson/Epiphone collaboration Epi's including a Exclusive 2020 59 standard outfit in Honey Burst. The Exclusive Lemon Burst that I just purchased is basically a 59 and it is a sight to see and to be heard. They both have the same 59 long tenon neck, a maple cap, AAA top, vintage style tuners, CTS pots, and 50's wiring. The new Ax will need adjustments, very little fretwork, and a proper setup with Daddario NYXL's. Fit and finish is awesome and the maple top is very stunning. I watched these guitars for months and the pics of this one popped bigtime. Had to have it! The playability was ok out of the box but it will be much better after the setup. This is one heck of a guitar and they are flying off the shelf at Sweetwater. The newer Gibson/Epiphone collaboration guitars are very high quality. This ole axman has been buying playing and working on guitars since the 60s and I have some older vintage made in the usa guitars. IMO the new higher end Epiphone electric guitars can hold their own "with a proper setup" for a whole lot less $ than a Gibson. I'm all about the good ole USA, but i'm all about bang for the buck and this guitar is quite a bang. Rock on!

Never selling this guitar

I bought the standard 50s with Lemon burst finish. Had to wait longer for it but Im happy I did. I love this guitar so much. Its beautiful, it sounds great, it feels good to play and all for an incredibly affordable price. The team at sweetwater was awesome. Ive never had such good service. I almost want to buy another one just so I can have two.

Epiphone 50’s Les Paul

I wasn't prepared for how amazing this guitar looks in person. The Photos just don't do this Les Paul justice. However the main thing I wasn't prepared for was how good the Probucker's sounded. I already planned on replacing them with a set of SD PAF's or Frailin Pure PAF's. I have to say (through my amp) this Epi sounds just as good as my Les Paul with Burstbucker's or my Ltd EC-1000 with SD Antiquities. It was close! The set up out of the box was decent, no fret buzz, frets looked good and no noted run overs on the binding. It's a striking guitar! Glad I finally made purchase!

Gorgeous guitar

I had been weighing options to complement my home built Telecaster from over a decade ago and settled on an LP without breaking the bank. Epiphone has had a mini revival the last couple years and are killing it recently.

The fit and finish is better than I would expect at this price point and the Sweetwater exclusive Lemon Burst color is extremely pleasing. I didn't find any stain running over the binding or build up by the neck that some reviews I've seen on YouTube of Epiphones I've come across previously. The only thing/flaw I could find was the number indicator for the neck pickup's tone knob was slightly off, showing a 9.5 when turned up fully to 10. This will be an easy adjustment. I plan to replace the stock strings and give the fretboard a good conditioning, but everything else looks pretty good. No fret buzz or dead frets, action and intonation is pretty good out of the box. Not sure how much can be attributed to Epiphone or the 55 point inspection by Sweetwater, but it was definitely playable right out of the packaging.

The guitar arrived in less than 48 hours after ordering from the reserve list and my sales engineer, Matt Stockburger, was very helpful in the reserve process and answered any questions I had. I'm likely to continue to order new year from Sweetwater even though it may take a little longer. The customer service and attention to detail are worth the wait.

I apologize, but the picture doesn't do the guitar justice. I was so excited about playing it that I only took a quick snapshot. The professional pictures Sweetwater provides of each guitar give an honest representation of the product you'll receive.

Amazing guitar!

After taking around a 10 year hiatus from learning guitar, this les paul was exactly what I needed to find my passion again! It sounds great, it looks great, and it truly makes me want to pick it up and play. The customer service I have received from sweetwater is second to none. Thanks again for helping me find my passion for music!!
