Hound Dog Deluxe

Just bought this Hound Dog a couple of weeks ago.A beautiful resonator with a good sound.I've been playing slide guitar since 1974.Also have a Dean Chrome G and a new Dean Mahogany CE resonator.I grew up learning the slide by listening to Duane Allman and copied his technique even though he played a Les Paul and sometimes a Dobro. Wish it had a volume and tone control on the guitar and a better pick up. Knocked it off a guitar stand on a hardwood floor yesterday practicing for a gig. Relieved that it only had a small dent on the neck. Always wanted a Dobro brand Hound Dog! It is now my favorite resonator and my Yamaha FS-TA is demoted to second place. You'll love this Hound Dog!
Music background: Learned keyboards in the early 1960's and saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 1964. Learned guitar after that. Semi-Pro and church musician. ***

Excellent Build Quality and Tone

Very pleased with this little guy. As always Sweetwater made sure the instrument arrived set to specifications and incredibly was in tune when I opened the box.
Build quality is excellent, smooth fret ends, binding joints perfect and not a rattle to be found in the cone. Keep in mind that it is strung with traditional resonator string gauges so they are heavy (very) but you need that if you will be playing traditionally and/or with a slide. The extra beef on the strings brings out that lovely growl when you want it and makes for some almost never-ending sustain when using a slide.
Feel free to lighten up if you plan on playing like a traditional guitar, just a fair warning to those who have never had the pleasure of playing a true resonator before.
I highly recommend the Epiphone resonator case - perfect fit and for the money it is an excellent sturdy/well made case with plush lining and some nice features.
This resonator (and case) is a keeper!
Music background: 60 years playing guitar, all styles, now a fingerstyle composer./performer

Love it

Found one of these used. First resonator. Sounds great. The passive electronics do nothing to diminish the sound so really no need to mic if gigging. Wish it had a cutaway, but I'm starting to like the idea of playing it like a squareneck. My only problem was Epiphone could do little work on the edges. They are really square, almost sharp. Ended up taking some sandpaper to where my arm sits and rounded it off. Made it much more comfortable to play.
